Assesments can be required for licence eligibility depending on the offence, and represent an official legal document. Assesments are designed to assess the driver's understanding of alcohol use in the context of driving as well as individual situations including current alcohol use.
Offenders may be required to undertake an initial assessment within 28 days of appearing for your Licence Eligibility Order but can be up to 12 months prior to applying to the court for a licence eligibility hearing depending on time of offence. In some circumstances the disqualification period may cease before you have completed the steps towards licence restoration, consequently, it may be possible to apply to the court for a time reduction between the first assessment and the court hearing. We recommend discussing further with us regarding the details on how to go about this time reduction procedure.
An assessment is required for anyone going to court for a second offence or a first offence where the BAC is 0.15% or greater or a non BAC offence i.e. Refusing to use a breathalyser, Refusing to Accompany back to the police station or take a blood test. Assessments range from $160 depending on circumstances. (N.B. Prices are subject to change). An assessment is also to be completed within 28 days prior to court for all offenders who have an interlock in their vehicle applying to court to remove the interlock.
To discuss the requirements for assessment in your situation please call us on 1800 253 141, or visit our contact page for further other contact methods.
If you are required to fit an interlock you may need an assessment prior to going to court and you WILL need to apply to the court for an Interlock Condition Removal Order (ICRO) once you have served your minimum interlock period. You will also need to undertake an Interlock Condition Removal Order Assessment within 28 days of your appearance in court.
For more information on interlocks, see:
